In the end, the safe gives you complete control over who can open the interior and retrieve the contents. The safe is also extremely compact at 16.5 by 7.75 by 14.5 inches (W x H x D), so you can store it pretty much anywhere. And should someone without an approved fingerprint need to open the safe, he or she can use the emergency backup keys. Great safe! July 29, 2010 Harry Littell (Sacramento, CA USA) I have a Sentry key lock safe (H2300) that is a real pain. Although it offers some protection it is heavy, awkward to move, hard to open, and so on. Then I was watching Criminal Minds and I liked the handgun safe used by one of the characters and how it opened by the touch of his fingers. I don't have any guns to store, but there are things I need from day to day where easy and speed of access is important. I decided to spend the extra money for a biometric safe to improve ease of access by me and provide a formidable obstacle by others. I wanted something fairly spacious but not huge. Something that if I could not find the key would open just fine.
I agree with the complaints that the beeps cannot be modulated or taken off completely, however in a bind I could see this working both ways as the beep tells you that you have done that step correctly where you might fumble and try again and get confused, especially if in a panic and consequently lose time.
I have never been a person who is into safes, but I can see how a person could easily employ three or four throughout their home. One for your wife, for example, where she can keep important and sacred things that are valuable which she likes to keep handy; another for a gun, and if the house is large maybe a couple of them for guns in different parts of the home. I think we need to face it, criminality is on the rise and self-protection is an ever increasing need.
There needs to be something where you can safely store the things you take with you, like a wallet, keys, cash, etc and not leave them out in the open. The days when we left our front doors unlocked are over and so are the days where we leave valuables in our homes unsecured.
If you have guns they need to be in a stronger safe, which also can store other important things, so they can have multi-use, but I am coming to believe that any home in order to be secure needs to have places in the home that provide security and easy access to say extra cash in a hurry, extra keys, and perhaps guns and ammo.
Since I have had this safe my life has changed in that there are certain items that are now very secure. They were secured before, but not like this. This safe is not a two ton thick walled box, but if anchored down it would take some time for a thief to even begin to get into it and it would not be worth it unless they planned to spend a lot of time.
I am going to get a couple more safes, but ones that do a better job of storing valuables, which are fire and water safe, and reserve this one for other things. Getting this safe and the ease of use it has plus its flexibility with respect to how many finger prints it will accept has opened my mind to a different standard of personal safety. Some things we simply need to know are safe all the time. Certainly anything can be stolen or broken into, but it is our duty to offer protection to our family and loved ones that their things will not simply be picked out of a drawer or off a shelf and that self-defense is not an obstacle in and of itself.
This is a great safe. I'm sure as this type of safe becomes more popular the price will come down, the steel will thicken and harden, etc, but there is a lot to be said about a biometric safe in the now, especially one as nicely made and with the ease of features this one has.
Nice safe like it but don't love it July 26, 2010 Death Metal Pat (Maryland) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got this in the gold box deal and for the price I paid it was a good deal.As others have said the most annoying thing about this safe is the beeps from the opening and closing.Another thing I don't like is that you can't keep the bolts in the open position for very long until the safe starts to beep.It will beep every 15 seconds or so until you throw the bolts to the closed position. You can have the door open but to shut it you have to open the bolts again. It takes 2 or 3 trys to open the safe because my thumb is just a little to big to fit in the slot and I have gotten both my thumb and index finger to work.It is best to place the safe somewhere to can reach up to it to open ,the closer to the ground the more odd of an angle you have to place your hand to open it.
Not too strong July 26, 2010 Michael G. Lustig (NJ USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The door on this safe is heavy-duty but the walls aren't. I could probably open this safe with a sawsall in under 10 minutes. Any thief would simply take the entire safe and open it later. I suppose if it was bolted down you'd need a crowbar to remove it. It is not sledge hammer proof.
I recorded several finger from each hand and from other family members. I found that scanning the same finger at a few different angles provided less errors.
As other reviewers mentioned, there is a beep when the safe unlocks. It's no big deal as long as I can get my Sig out in under 5 seconds.
This is certainly an improvement over leaving your gun in a draw or under a table.
This safe is not fireproof. The "emergency key" would take about a minute to use because you have to use an Allen wrench to remove the cover plate before you can put the key in. Also, having the key handy is a serious security risk so it's nowhere near this safe.
seems to operate well but HUGE security flaw during shipping July 24, 2010 Z. Fogassy 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Received the safe yesterday, installed it today. Only programmed 1 finger and it works every time, so that's good. However - the words "Biometric Safe" are printed all over the outside of the box, along with the serial number! So now my neighbors (and FedEx) know I have a safe so I must have something valuable to put inside! An unscrupulous delivery person or neighbor also knows my name, address and safe's serial # ("Gee I lost my emergency key - can you replace it?"). It could have been double boxed in a plain box. I'll update once we've been using it awhile.
Well Worth The Money! July 24, 2010 Escape23 I am 62 yrs. old and recently bought a handgun for home protection. So I needed a secure place to store this pistol as I have young Grandsons. I love the the fast access with just a push of a button and then press your finger on the glass window- no dial to turn or numbers to remember.Very easy to set your own and other users fingerprints. Batteries are easy to get to and of course there are back up keys. It is well built and I have peace of mind that that my valuables are safe especially if you bolt it down. I added a security cable just to make it more difficult to take.Buy this safe, its very relible and works great everytime!
