Suits its purpose July 2, 2010

I purchased this safe after reading numerous reviews from other consumers. It arrived very quickly and was well packaged. The safe itself holds all of my important documents and has plenty of room for jewelry items and a handgun. It is well constructed. The only negative thing I have to say about it is the key is not the greatest and in fact I had trouble opening it the first time. After a couple attempts, I got "the feel" for the key and have had no trouble since then.
It suits it's purpose and is priced very reasonably.

I was looking for something to put photos, videos, etc. in to protect them and this looks like it will work. I have about 16 small video cassettes in it, plus some slides and photos, and it's about half full. It would be nice if it had a handle on it. Overall satisfied with the purchase.

I'm a big fan of this company's products. Their stuff always feels like it's good quality. This safe is big enough to hold important papers, data discs of family photos and a couple other things. It gives real peace of mind when leaving the house that even if the worst happens you'll still have some of your most important stuff. You're even protected from floods or water damage.
From their website, it will protect USB drives, CDs, DVDs, memory sticks, etc. from an average fire for up to 30 minutes. I think it protects pictures adequately, but it won't protect floppies or negatives. It's maximum internal temperature should only get to about 350F, so theoretically anything that could survive a half hour in that should make it.
If you want to store things like tax records or have flood risks, don't get this; go get their hanging folder unit that's also waterproof. Another important thing to remember, this unit promises "privacy" not security, so if you need to keep stuff secure this isn't for that. You can order replacement keys for most of their safes, I think for $12, so if your kid wanted a peak or someone steals it, you have no real protection.
There's not too much to say about functions, pretty much the only moving parts are the key slot and the lid which functions in both the super exciting open position and the somewhat less exciting, but equally necessary closed position. Let the good times roll!
I'd recommend this unit highly. It's not much money for a 1x security investment. If you don't need the water protection, I actually like the SentrySafe 500 FIRE-SAFE better.
