Product Description Digital Continuous Radon Gas Monitoring with Home Radon Alarm Protect your family from lung cancer from radon gas exposure with the only EPA evaluated radon gas alarm, the Safety Siren Pro 3 Electronic Radon Gas Detector from Family Safety Products. As seen on TV, this is not like a single use radon test detection kit: this digital radon gas monitor for home testing is a continuous radon tester that performs continuous radon gas monitoring. The clear, easily read digital radon level display shows short-term radon levels as well as long-term radon level averages. The Safety Siren electronic radon monitor gives its first radon reading after 48 hours of radon gas sampling. Radon gas in air or water is a health hazard resulting from uranium breaking down in soil. Exposure to radon can cause lung cancer. Continuous home radon monitoring is recommended in high radon areas or when radon mitigation systems are used. Radon gas levels change according to humidity and season. See in.Radon Facts in. below the radon monitor information. Family Safety Products' Electronic Radon Meter Features: USA EPA Evaluated. Not for sale to residents of the State of Iowa nor for shipment to Iowa residents per Iowa Department of Public Health Rules, Chapters 43 (136B). Please contact the Iowa Department of Public Health at (515) 281-7689 for further information. Numeric LED radon gas detection level display range: .1 to 999.9 in pCi/L. Short and long term readings. Short-term readings: 7 day radon average. Long-term readings: radon averages since powered-up or last reset. 5-year maximum. Audible alarm if short or long-term radon gas averages are 4 pCi/L or greater. Continuously samples air . Display updates hourly. Failsafe self test: every 24 hours. Error code displays if test fails. 4 function menu button Green LED illuminates next to S (short-term) or L (long-term) display. User can manually test detector operation. Works as Advertised March 5, 2010 David Vincent 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have used this device for about a month now and am impressed. It has enabled me to test the radon levels in several areas of my home and has provided the necessary information for a decision on whether or not to purchase a mitigation system. I cannot be sure that it is 100% accurate, of course, but my readings are in line with neighbors and friends who live in this area, which is known to have high average levels of radon in the soil. I will probably proceed with installation of a mitigation system since the levels in my home range from 4.9 pCi/L in the Master Bedroom to 11.5 pCi/L in the unfinished basement. Fortunately, the levels in my home are lower than my nearby neighbors (one of whom had a test that measured nearly 40 pCi/L!). My only complaint about the device is that there is no way to silence the hourly "beep" (which is to notify you that a new reading has been calculated) - it's loud enough to wake a light sleeper like me if the device is placed in the bedroom.

A great product for testing radon! February 22, 2010 R. Larson (Fort Collins, CO USA) I was using mailable charcoal radon testors that our city sells. I noticed the radon levels creeping above 10 pico-liries since last year. My home has a radon passive system installed by the home bulder, but decided to add a radon fan to reduce the levels below the recommended 4 pl amount by the EPA.
I purchased the Safety Siren electronic radon detector over a month ago and have been testing different rooms in the basement and on the main floor. The electronic detector indicated higher levels than the charcoal detectors, which made my decision to add the fan and reduce the radon levels in my home. The detector gives readings after two days of monitoring and gives an audible alarm besides giving the actual measured amount.
I live in Colorado that has a high radon gas area. Radon gas is nothing to fool with as it causes lung cancer, especially if you're a smoker. I never smoked, but I want to be safe knowing the dangers of radon gas. We lost one neighbor recently to lung cancer who smoked, so that is a warning for us all!
I feel this detector is worth the money as a great monitor and warning device like a fire or carbon monoxide detector. Even though it costs more than fire or carbon monoxide detectors, this detector ie worth the cost in saving lives in the long run. Amazon offers the lowest price compared to other retailers. I called Safety Siren's tech support after two weeks to confirm the detector operation, who was very quick, knowledgable and certainly helpful.
I Don't Trust It February 20, 2010 The Toyman (Central Illinois) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
After reading a review and ranking of Radon detectors in Consumer Reports (September 2008), and discovering Radon was the 2nd leading cause of lung cancer, I decided to test my recently finished basement. I bought the Safety Siren Pro Series HS71512 3 Radon Gas Detector ($130), and an Accustar Alpha Track Test Kit AT 100/Radon Gas Testing unit ($31.82), both from/through Amazon for comparison purposes. The Accustar was well rated for accuracy at Consumer Reports, but I wanted an electronic model for repeated use in various locations.
The Safety Siren Pro was simple to use after reviewing the directions. Locate it in an appropriate place, plug it in and wait for the short-term readings to appear; press the menu button to select long-term readings. Testing occurred from September 2009 through January 2010. Initial short-term test readings were at 9.2 pCi/L. The unit was placed and left undisturbed for 12-15 days, and then moved to other rooms in the basement for comparison, including a small enclosed area that includes two sump pumps. Long-term readings were consistent in all locations, ranging from 10.2 to 15.6, averaging around 14.2. The reading in an upstairs, seldom-used bedroom was 12.4. The furnace duct in the room was closed and the door shut.
Testing of the Accustar Alpha Track Test Kit began at the same time (Sept. 2009). The unit is to be used for long-term testing ranging from three months to one year. It was put in a TV room away from foot traffic & HVAC ducts, and left undisturbed for six months, then mailed to Accustar for analysis. The results were available at their on-line site within two weeks, with a copy sent to my email address. The resulting reading was 8.7 pCi/L, on the average, 40% lower than the Safety Siren Pro.
Both test units showed a unacceptably high level of Radon in my home. The higher readings of the Safety Siren Pro, however, made me somewhat anxious. At this point, I suppose it would be appropriate to conduct one more test to establish a consensus. But I think I won't. My next step will be to explore Do-It-Yourself options for mitigation, and to have discussions with a licensed, professional mitigator.
This product really works! February 6, 2010 Michael Travisano (Anaheim, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We bought this product to measure our home for Radon gas. Our levels were about 1.5, but my in-laws home read 5.5. They had a professional company come out and take readings. They confirmed that the Safety Siren was accurate.
Radon Detector February 1, 2010 gtownbuyer (GEORGETOWN, IN, US) I like the fact that this can be reset, reused, and is portable. Nice little unit.
